Overview

In this role you will own the end-to-end hardware design of UAV platforms, translating requirements into robust, field-ready systems. You will bridge mechanical, electronic, and sensor subsystems to deliver high-performance, reliable drones that support Helsing’s mission to protect democracies. You will work closely with software, firmware, and avionics teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration and field readiness. This is a fast-paced, impact-driven position at a company shaping advanced AI-powered defence tech.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end hardware design of UAV systems from prototype to flight-ready builds
  • Integrate mechanical, electronic, and sensor subsystems into cohesive drone architectures
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate hardware, balancing performance, weight, and durability
  • Define and execute hardware validation and flight-readiness testing (bench, integration, field trials)
  • Collaborate with software, firmware, and avionics teams for hardware/software integration
  • Produce design documentation, schematics, and BOMs according to quality standards
  • Evaluate and select COTS components and coordinate with suppliers to meet requirements

Key requirements

  • Hands-on experience designing/building UAV or similar autonomous hardware
  • Comfort with mechanical and electronic domains (airframe to PCB, power systems)
  • Strong prototyping mindset from concept to flying hardware
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (SolidWorks, Siemens NX) and electronics tools (Altium)
  • Experience planning and executing hardware validation and test campaigns
  • Ability to operate in fast-moving environments with strong engineering judgment
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
