Principal Civil Engineer (Water / AMP8)

Overview

As Principal Civil Engineer at WSP, you lead complex water sector design projects within the UK and internationally. You will own end-to-end delivery, guide multi-disciplinary teams, and align outcomes with client expectations and regulatory standards. You’ll help shape innovative services and digital solutions, supporting the Future Ready and Net Zero initiatives. Responsibilities

• Take ownership of project delivery across safety, technical quality, schedule and budget
• Lead multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders
• Shape service delivery and identify opportunities to provide additional WSP services
• Build and maintain client relationships to ensure project outcomes and satisfaction
• Contribute to innovative approaches, new services, and digital product development
• Support the implementation of the Future Ready and Net Zero programmes
• Promote best practice within the Asset Design team and client initiatives
• Oversee bid preparation, resource planning and budgeting
• Line-manage and mentor graduate engineers and degree apprentices
• Contribute to recruitment and growth of the civil engineering team
• Continue developing technical, managerial and leadership capabilities

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering
• Chartered status, or progression towards ICE or CIWEM
• Experience leading engineering design teams including civil engineers and associated disciplines
• Experience delivering projects within identified budgets and schedules
• Experience in checking or technical approval on linear civil engineering infrastructure projects or industrial/process design
• Experience mentoring or coaching junior civil engineers
• Client-facing experience
