Overview

In this role you will support the delivery of highways, drainage and infrastructure projects across residential, commercial, industrial, logistics and major developments. You’ll work within Waterman’s multidisciplinary team to craft innovative, buildable solutions, collaborating with planners, flood risk specialists and project managers. The position offers technical growth and progression toward Chartered status, with a clear emphasis on sustainable, integrated design. You will contribute to delivering high-quality outputs that align with client and authority requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and refine highway designs for developments (alignment, junctions, access roads, roundabouts, active travel)
  • Coordinate pavement design, construction specs, and Section 38/278 and private road schemes
  • Develop design drawings, reports and technical documentation; support technical approvals and authority responses
  • Assist in feasibility studies, concept designs and infrastructure strategies
  • Assist drainage strategies and SuDS designs; perform hydraulic calculations and flood risk mitigation
  • Coordinate drainage, utility and highway designs for integrated solutions
  • Deliver outputs to programme/budget/quality targets; support project management and commercial reporting
  • Coordinate with internal multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders; participate in design reviews and client workshops
  • Develop relationships with clients, local authorities, and project stakeholders; support discussions with authorities, developers and utility providers
  • Support bid submissions, framework opportunities and knowledge sharing; promote sustainability objectives and continuous improvement
  • Progress toward Chartership where applicable

Key requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in a UK engineering consultancy or contractor environment
  • Understanding of highway and infrastructure design principles
  • Knowledge of UK design standards and guidance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams
