Overview

In this role you will design, lead and deliver electrical systems for VNS projects in the nuclear sector. You’ll supervise engineering, manufacturing and testing activities while developing innovative, compliant solutions for remote handling and machinery controls. You will drive hazard analysis, design reviews and documentation, and support commissioning. This position blends hands-on engineering with leadership in a safety‑critical, standards-driven environment, with a clear impact on client projects and company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to design electrical systems for diverse projects, including precision positioning for Remote Handling, machinery controls, safety circuits and LV/ELV systems
  • Develop and apply expertise in PLCs, motion controls, distributed I/O and instrumentation
  • Utilise CAD tools (Trimble Amtech, PAScal, SEE Electrical) to produce schematics and wiring drawings
  • Lead hazard analysis and risk assessment activities
  • Lead design reviews, system verification and validation
  • Maintain and update engineering drawings and project documentation
  • Work within VNS procedures and contribute to their evolution
  • Ensure designs comply with British, European, international and company standards
  • Support commissioning and in-house testing activities
  • Adapt to changing responsibilities as required by management

Key requirements

  • CAD proficiency (preferably SEE Electrical) and ability to produce detailed electrical drawings
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • MS Office or Google Workspace tools
  • Background in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering
  • Proven leadership, team collaboration and strong communication
  • Knowledge of Project Management/Engineering
  • Experience working within a QA system
  • Competence in at least two areas: Electrical Design; Electrical cubicle/rack design; precision motion control; safety circuits; LV systems; PLCs; Distributed I/O; technical documentation writing
  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic or Mechatronic Engineering, or demonstrable engineering lead experience
  • Engineering Council registration and membership of a relevant professional body
  • Must be available to work at the Abingdon office at least 3 days per week (2 days remote)
