Senior Manager – Employment Tax

Overview

In this role you lead employment tax advisory and complex compliance for a large client portfolio, collaborating with Tax and Legal. You will work within the Employer Services context, engaging with payroll, HR, immigration and global mobility to provide joined-up advice. You will translate intricate tax rules into clear guidance for non-experts while mentoring junior staff and supporting client relationships. This position balances technical excellence with practical, commercial solutions in a growing team. You will contribute to the ongoing growth of the Employment Tax and Global Mobility practice, delivering high-quality, client-facing tax service.

Responsibilities

• Advising on all aspects of employment tax (status, PAYE, NIC, reliefs)
• Performing PAYE health checks and handling HMRC enquiries
• Advising on P11Ds, PAYE Settlement Agreements and Short Term Business Visitor reporting
• Addressing overseas tax queries with the international network
• Reviewing expatriate self-assessment tax returns and payroll computations
• Supervising the team and addressing queries from senior staff
• Providing technical support to the payroll bureau
• Understanding monthly payroll processing
• Advising on taxation of employee share schemes and related reporting
• Assisting development of new business

Key requirements

• CTA qualified with strong employment tax experience
• Broad technical knowledge across employment taxes incl. expatriate/global mobility, share schemes, personal taxation
• Experience dealing with HMRC enquiries and reviews with confidence
• Good understanding of payroll processes and monthly payroll operations
• Experience advising nonprofit organisations advantageous
• Strong communication skills to explain complex matters to non-specialists
• Organised, proactive and self-motivated with ownership of work
