Senior Design Engineer

Overview

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will lead the electro-mechanical design of innovative products focused on water saving, hygiene improvements, and energy efficiency. You’ll join a small engineering team within a manufacturing-focused cleantech company and drive NPD from concept to production. You’ll tackle mechanical and electrical design challenges, applying plastics injection moulding and fluid dynamics knowledge to scale impact. This role offers hybrid work in Basildon and a chance to contribute to global sustainability efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead electro-mechanical product design across the product lifecycle
• Drive new product development (NPD) in a manufacturing environment
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, manufacturable designs
• Apply plastics injection moulding knowledge and fluid dynamics concepts in designs
• Interface with electronics-related work (PCB development, IoT, embedded software/C++) as relevant
• Support transition to production and optimization of designs for cost and reliability

Key requirements

• Background in electro-mechanical product design within a manufacturing setting
• Strong design skills with advanced 2D CAD and 3D modelling (SolidWorks)
• Experience or exposure to plastics injection moulding, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, pumps
• Working knowledge of electronics-oriented topics (PCB development, IoT, embedded software/C++) is a plus
• Project management skills and ability to work in a small design team
• Degree-level qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Product Design (ideal)
