Engineering Team Manager

Overview

As Engineering Team Manager at Ocado’s CFC in Luton, you lead Engineers, Technicians and Trainees to deliver high-standards in a 24/7 automated operation. You’ll allocate workload, drive capability development, and handle disciplinary matters while combining mechanical and electrical expertise to support decision making. You’ll lead from the front to uphold pace, accuracy and safety across all automation systems. This role offers impact through shaping front-line engineering performance in a world-class robotics and AI-enabled fulfilment environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead a multidisciplinary team of Engineers, Technicians and Trainees
• Assess capabilities, identify development opportunities and motivate the team
• Allocate workload and manage day-to-day operations
• Handle disciplinary issues and ensure safety and standards
• Lead from the front to drive pace, accuracy and standards in the CFC
• Make informed decisions drawing on mechanical and electrical engineering expertise
• Support 24/7 shift coverage and respond to operational needs

Key requirements

• Experience leading a team of Engineers in an automated FMCG environment
• Strong technical ability in automation hardware and software
• Solid understanding of production, picking and storage MHE systems
• Proficiency with computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS)
• Ability to make critical decisions in a fast-paced role
• Comfort with working at height and a focus on health and safety
