Principal Contracts Specialist

Overview

In this role you enable profitable bids and contract delivery within a cross‑site Raytheon UK team. You provide expert contract governance and commercial advice to bid and project teams, shaping agreements and mitigating risks. You will lead contract negotiations and manage changes across multiple contracts, acting as the commercial face to customers. Your work supports securing successful, compliant programs while enabling business growth.

Responsibilities

• Provide full contractual and commercial support to bid development, approval and proposal issuance (RFP/ITN) and company strategy
• Identify commercial risks and integrate them into the risk plan with mitigation
• Lead contract negotiations with customers and suppliers
• Manage both new and existing contracts, including change control and flow-downs to other functions
• Promptly and effectively resolve commercial issues
• Oversee financial aspects of contracts including forecasting and milestone plans and timely claims
• Be the day‑to‑day commercial contact and subject matter expert for the customer
• Ensure contract completion, closure and archiving
• Champion change and process improvement

Key requirements

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience
• Experience in reviewing and drafting contractual documents
• Strong commercial awareness and governing law understanding
• Experience of commercial risk management
• Ability to work tenaciously and flexibly in a cross‑functional team
• Strong communication and relationship-building with internal and external customers
• Calm under pressure and collaborative
• Positive, self-motivated and able to work independently
• Willingness and ability to travel occasionally
