Overview
As Project Engineering Manager in Assystem Defence, you will lead technical delivery of complex engineering projects for a prestigious client account from Derby, with flexible working and travel. You mentor Technical Leads and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, compliant results. You own change control, manage risks, and report status to senior stakeholders while supporting business growth through bids and proposals. You work in a customer-facing, highly regulated environment to drive technical excellence and delivery impact.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to Technical Leads and delivery teams
- Lead the technical delivery and direction for multiple engineering projects
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure project execution
- Ensure engineers understand project requirements, processes and methods
- Lead project Change Control activities
- Own technical quality and ensure deliverables meet contractual and client requirements
- Act as primary technical contact for internal and external stakeholders
- Report on technical status, risks and progress to senior stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with technical, quality and regulatory standards (including QMS/BMS)
- Ensure SQEP for assigned responsibilities
- Support business growth through customer presentations, technical proposals and business development activities
- Build relationships with the Account Manager and Integrator
- Lead technical aspects of bids and tenders including scope, methodologies and cost estimates
Key requirements
- Strong experience leading engineering teams on complex projects
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and act as technical authority
- Excellent leadership, communication and mentoring skills
- Passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions
- Experience developing customer relationships and pursuing new business opportunities
- Experience supporting bids, tenders and technical proposals
- Engineering degree in a relevant discipline
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or working towards registration
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing and delivering engineering projects
- Experience applying Systems Engineering (Requirements Capture, Validation, Verification)
- Experience managing scope across infrastructure from Concept to Installation
- Excellent stakeholder management across multiple teams
- Experience in Nuclear and/or Defence industry
- Knowledge of CDM Regulations, Machinery Directive and PED
- Experience with QMS and BMS
- Experience with NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts advantageous
