Overview
In this General Manager role, you will lead Galliford Try’s Small Works business across the UK, steering commercial performance and operational delivery. You will align multi-project activity with the company’s growth and governance framework, driving profitability, risk management, and client satisfaction. You’ll work closely with project managers and senior leadership to ensure financial and delivery targets are met, while maintaining safety and quality standards. This is a strategic, high-impact leadership position in a top UK contractor with a strong growth agenda.

Responsibilities
- Take overarching accountability for commercial performance and profitability of the Small Works portfolio
- Drive revenue growth, margin improvement, cash generation, and financial predictability across projects
- Lead and develop a high-performance team of Project Managers emphasizing accountability and operational excellence
- Embed robust commercial controls across tendering, procurement, forecasting, variation management, cost control, and final accounts
- Provide strategic oversight of project financials, challenging assumptions and implementing corrective actions
- Manage contractual risk and ensure governance-aligned project administration
- Review and approve forecasts, CVRs, cash flow projections, and business performance reporting
- Drive consistency and best practice across regions to improve governance and profitability
- Build strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners as senior commercial contact
- Support business development by identifying opportunities and nurturing repeat business
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, to required quality and aligned with commercial objectives
Key requirements
- Significant leadership experience in the construction industry, preferably with multi-project oversight
- Proven track record of delivering strong commercial results and improving margins
- Extensive knowledge of construction contracts, commercial management, procurement, and risk management
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, forecasts, cash flow, and project reporting
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop high-performing operational teams
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to balance strategic objectives with hands-on operational leadership
- Solid understanding of project delivery, construction methodologies, and client management
