Shift Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will lead a shift-based maintenance team at the Aberdare site, delivering on safety, reliability, and cost targets in a fast-paced 24/7 production environment. You’ll work hands-on alongside technicians and engineers, driving improvements and coordinating projects such as new machine design and retrofits. Your technical expertise with PLCs, electrical systems, and automation will underpin proactive and reactive maintenance. You will shape maintenance performance and sustainability initiatives, partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure safe, continuous production.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the maintenance team across shifts
• Provide hands-on technical support for electrical and automation maintenance
• Monitor and maintain site services ( HV switchgear, electrical distribution, process water, compressors)
• Plan and deliver projects (new machines, retrofits, improvements)
• Drive maintenance performance metrics (PPM %, downtime, MTBF/MTTR)
• Implement lean/continuous improvement tools (5Why, FMEA)
• Identify actions to minimise energy and maintenance spend
• Develop and mentor Maintenance Technicians
• Ensure site standards, safety, and procedures are followed

Key requirements

• Electrical engineering background or equivalent hands-on experience
• Strong understanding of electrical control principles and hardware
• Proven leadership or line-management experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage complex problems and maintain production continuity
