Overview
As Principal Engineer, you drive Front Engineering for Small Modular Reactors, Advanced Modular Reactors and Fusion projects within the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit. You lead a design team to deliver key design artefacts and integrate systems across the plant, shaping optioning and technical decisions. You chair design reviews and safety-focused studies, ensuring compliance with standards. Responsibilities
- Lead Front Engineering activities for SMR/AMR/Fusion projects
- Manage and mentor a design team to produce PFDs, Equipment Datasheets, and related design documents
- Conduct optioneering studies to identify client-aligned solutions
- Develop Design Description Documents and Requirement Specifications
- Integrate developed systems into the broader plant infrastructure
- Act as technical lead for designated scopes
- Chair Design Reviews and lead HAZID/HAZOP studies
- Ensure adherence to H&S policies and Quality Management System standards
Key requirements
- Experience in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, thermal power, or oil and gas
- Expertise in thermal power systems and equipment (steam turbines to pumps) and nuclear plant operations
- Proficiency in optioneering with ALARP and BAT argumentation
- Experience mentoring and leading small teams
- Excellent communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Familiarity with ASME, European, and UK codes and standards; knowledge of Product Safety Legislation
- Understanding of requirements management and systems engineering principles
- Results-oriented with ability to work independently and collaboratively
- British National with eligibility for full UK security clearance
