Overview

In this role you lead elective access and cancer pathways to deliver NHS performance standards. You will drive transformation and improvement across Outpatient and Access, influencing regional and national forums and shaping strategy. You manage budgets, lead multidisciplinary teams, and ensure high-quality patient care and experience in complex environments. This is a pivotal opportunity to advance patient access and outcomes through data-driven, system-wide change.

Responsibilities

  • Drive RTT and cancer targets across the Trust
  • Lead transformation projects to improve outpatient productivity and patient pathways
  • Represent the Trust at regional and national forums (e.g., GIRFT, ICB Elective Board, Access Networks)
  • Oversee demand and capacity modelling and digital booking systems
  • Manage budgets and lead multidisciplinary teams to achieve efficiency and quality
  • Develop and implement policies to meet DoH guidelines and local guidance
  • Lead on patient pathways to minimize waiting times and optimize treatment for RTT and Cancer
  • Ensure governance and risk processes are in place and reporting is robust
  • Lead the RTT and Cancer operational performance and escalation across the Trust
  • Participate in on-call rota and deputise for the Deputy Chief Operating Officer when required
  • Produce complex data analyses and business cases for stakeholders
  • Identify efficiency schemes linked to the Outpatient Transformation Programme

Key requirements

  • Senior NHS management experience
  • In-depth knowledge of elective care, cancer standards, and constitutional rules
  • Experience in performance, financial and staff management and service redesign
  • Experience delivering major improvement projects and managing competing stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a complex environment
  • Master’s degree or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong negotiation abilities
