Overview

As a People Services Advisor, you are a trusted partner supporting managers and staff across the employee lifecycle. You blend employee-relations expertise with a drive for operational excellence, technology and automation to simplify processes and boost the employee experience. You will work in a global People Services team, using data and AI-enabled tools to enable informed people decisions. You’ll contribute to evolving the People function through continuous improvement and scalable ways of working. This role offers meaningful impact in shaping people strategies and practices at the FT.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, commercially aware guidance across the full employee lifecycle to managers and staff
  • Lead and support a broad range of employee relations matters (disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, absence, flexible working, family leave)
  • Coach managers to handle people issues with confidence and consistency
  • Ensure policies and practices reflect current employment legislation and are applied fairly
  • Manage probation processes with timely guidance and support
  • Handle consultations on parental leave, adoption, and other statutory leaves
  • Collaborate with People Operations, Payroll and People Systems to deliver a great employee/manager experience
  • Identify opportunities to simplify and standardise People processes across the lifecycle
  • Challenge inefficient practices and implement scalable improvements
  • Contribute to global People Services standards for quality and compliance
  • Promote continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the People team
  • Champion digital tools, automation and AI to improve efficiency of People Services
  • Identify repetitive activities suitable for workflow automation or self-service
  • Test, implement and embed new technologies with People Systems
  • Use AI to enhance drafting, knowledge management, reporting and operations with governance and data security in mind
  • Stay informed on emerging HR tech and propose value-adding solutions
  • Use people data and metrics to identify trends, risks and opportunities
  • Produce meaningful insights to inform decisions and drive improvement
  • Develop service performance metrics and actions to enhance quality and employee experience
  • Work with People Systems to ensure accurate management information for decision making
  • Lead or contribute to global People initiatives including change, reward, benefits, wellbeing, policy development, process redesign and HR technology projects
  • Support delivery of the FT People Strategy and broader priorities
  • Develop and manage project plans with stakeholders to ensure timely delivery
  • Build strong relationships across the business to understand operational challenges and improve the employee experience
  • Build trusted relationships with managers and leaders, offering balanced, commercially informed advice
  • Influence decisions with credible recommendations and evidence-based insight
  • Collaborate with the global People team to deliver integrated, consistent service
  • Promote diversity, inclusion and belonging through everyday interactions and project work

Key requirements

  • Experience as a People/HR Advisor in a generalist environment
  • Broad experience handling employee relations cases from initial advice to resolution
  • Strong understanding of UK employment legislation and its practical application
  • Commercial judgement with ability to influence constructively
  • Experience identifying and implementing HR process improvements
  • Strong digital capability with HR technology, AI tools and data usage to improve outcomes
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with actionable recommendations
  • Experience managing projects or contributing to cross-functional change initiatives
  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritise competing demands under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills

  • Desirable: CIPD Level 5 or 7, global/multinational experience, experience with Workday or other HRIS, experience with HR tech implementations, familiarity with AI-enabled workplace technologies, ability to analyse HR metrics to influence decisions
