Overview

As Production Manager at SWARCO UK & Ireland, you will lead two Melsonby facilities to deliver safe, efficient, on-time, high-quality production. You will spend significant time on the shop floor, developing capable teams and solving practical manufacturing challenges. You’ll partner with Engineering to improve processes and support design-for-manufacture, while driving Lean, 5S and continuous improvement. This role offers visibility, hands-on leadership, and a chance to shape production performance in a global tech business.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible leadership on the shop floor across two facilities
  • Lead, develop and motivate production teams
  • Build relationships with employees and understand their challenges
  • Develop deep understanding of products and processes
  • Identify production issues and implement practical solutions
  • Plan schedules and optimize use of labour, equipment, and materials
  • Monitor KPIs, quality and delivery targets
  • Ensure manufacturing to specification and required quality
  • Collaborate with Engineering to improve processes and support DFA
  • Investigate quality issues and drive corrective actions
  • Drive continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S
  • Manage production resources for productivity, delivery, and cost control
  • Coordinate with internal teams on priorities and schedules
  • Maintain health & safety standards and proactive risk management
  • Support recruitment, performance, absence management, training and workforce development
  • Coach and mentor team members and build capability

Key requirements

  • Proven experience in a Production Manager or senior production leadership role
  • Experience leading and motivating production teams
  • Experience in a low-volume, high-mix manufacturing environment
  • Electro-mechanical or engineering-based manufacturing background
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings and manufacturing information
  • Experience using root-cause analysis to resolve problems and improve performance
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement
  • Experience using ERP systems, ideally SAP
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
  • Excellent communication across all levels of the business
