Purview Data Governance Consultant

Overview

As a Purview Data Governance Consultant in Avanade’s Data & AI practice, you help clients design, implement, and embed modern data governance across Microsoft Purview and cloud analytics ecosystems. You will establish data ownership, classification, lineage, and policy enforcement to turn governance into actionable value for analytics and AI. You’ll collaborate with data engineers, platform teams, and business stakeholders to deliver practical, automated governance embedded in delivery pipelines. This role combines governance mindset with technical execution to accelerate trusted data use.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement data governance solutions with Microsoft Purview, covering cataloguing, classification, and lineage
• Enable data value, discoverability, secure access, and responsible use through governance
• Define data ownership, stewardship, policies, and operating models aligned to business and regulatory needs
• Integrate Purview with Azure data platforms, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Databricks, and MDM tools, embedding governance in pipelines
• Support Databricks Unity Catalog governance, aligning controls with governance objectives
• Assess metadata coverage, lineage, data quality signals, and policy enforcement across data platforms
• Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to make governance practical, usable, and automated
• Translate governance concepts into actionable guidance for technical and non-technical audiences
• Help clients evolve from ad hoc governance to sustainable, product-oriented, domain-aligned models
• Contribute to Avanade accelerators, patterns, and thought leadership in data governance and trust

Key requirements

• Strong data governance and data management experience (including data quality and MDM)
• Hands-on technical background from a data analyst or data engineer
• Appreciation of broader cloud architecture and networking
• Experience with data governance tools and enterprise data platforms
• Ability to work with data engineers, platform teams and business stakeholders
