Overview

In this role you will oversee procurement for a major UK infrastructure project, delivering best-in-class procurement strategies and value from the supply chain. You will work with cross-functional teams to meet commercial and project objectives, mitigate market risks, and drive efficiency and ethical procurement across the SZC programme. You will lead negotiations and develop the supplier base, while fostering an inclusive, high-performing team. Responsibilities

  • Implement the Contracting Strategy and Delivery & Contracting Plan as directed by the CWA Procurement Lead
  • Deliver Procurement and Supply Chain commitments within the Programme Alliance Agreement
  • Collaborate to mitigate market risk and drive project-wide procurement efficiencies
  • Develop strategic and tactical plans to ensure sufficient supply chain resources
  • Ensure supply chain performance meets operational and commercial requirements
  • Achieve strong operational and financial performance in the supply chain focusing on project delivery and cost efficiencies
  • Lead key negotiations to secure optimal commercial outcomes and manage risk
  • Support procurement and estimating teams with tendering, market analysis, supplier selection, risk assessments, and forecasting
  • Attract, build, develop and retain an appropriately skilled procurement team and foster an inclusive culture
  • Support training, staff development, appraisal, retention and recruitment to provide effective procurement service
  • Provide an ethical and compliant procurement approach aligned with governance and nuclear regulations
  • Develop the project supplier database linked to Compete For, including market assessments and bid support
  • Monitor markets and adjust procurement strategies to maximise opportunities or minimise risk
  • Build professional relationships with suppliers, sub-contractors and service providers for best value
  • Assist in local, diverse and SME engagement strategies and Meet the Buyer events
  • Lead implementation of the Sustainable Procurement Plan
  • Maintain relentless focus on Zero Harm

Key requirements

  • Experience in the construction procurement domain and understanding of interfaces and relationships
  • Ability to plan and structure operational procurement resources with mixed experience levels
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven track record delivering robust procurement strategies and value
  • Ability to focus on targets and work under pressure with tight deadlines
  • Has demonstrable value addition through procurement activity
  • Desirable: MCIPS or chartership with a construction-focused institute (CIOB or RICS)
  • Desirable: Industry qualification at Diploma Level 4 or higher (HNC Building Studies or Degree)
