Overview

As Senior Community Safety Manager – Thematic, you will steer citywide safety priorities and govern the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership to deliver evidence-based outcomes. You’ll shape themes such as Violence Reduction, Violence Against Women and Girls, and Organised Crime, driving cross-agency collaboration and policy impact. You will influence senior leaders and showcase measurable improvements in residents’ safety and wellbeing. This role offers the chance to lead meaningful, data-informed change in a diverse, ambitious city.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and governance of the BCSP and ensure compliance with statutory duties
  • Drive delivery of thematic priorities using evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches
  • Oversee policy development, long-term plans, and the Strategic Needs Assessment with data-led decision making
  • Manage performance, financial frameworks, and commissioning/ external funding opportunities
  • Provide expert advice to senior leaders and partnership boards and represent the Council at key forums
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary, high-performance team

Key requirements

  • Significant experience in community safety or public protection within complex partnerships
  • Proven track record delivering strategies, policies, and large-scale programmes with positive outcomes
  • Experience managing commissioning, budgets, procurement, and external funding
  • Strong relationship-building and influence with senior leaders, elected members, and partners
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management at a strategic level
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into decisions
  • Understanding of applicable community safety legislation (e.g., Crime and Disorder Act 1998, Domestic Abuse Act 2021, Modern Slavery Act 2015)
