Overview

In this Technical Director / Design Manager role, you guide the design and delivery of a complex, safety-critical defence programme. You lead integrated teams across Australia and the UK, ensuring design quality within a nuclear safety framework. You apply technical expertise to radiological waste management and multi-discipline integration, shaping outcomes for a high-stakes project. This is a senior, impact-driven role with a strong focus on safety culture and client collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integrated design teams across Australia and the UK to deliver high-quality outcomes
  • Provide technical leadership across complex process engineering systems, focusing on radiological waste management and supporting infrastructure
  • Guide design integration across multiple disciplines and resolve technical issues to support delivery
  • Support the Design Lead with technical guidance, program planning, and representation in senior technical and safety forums
  • Mentor engineers and specialists, build capability, and promote NSQEP capability across the programme
  • Build trusted client and stakeholder relationships and deliver practical, innovative solutions
  • Identify opportunities for business growth and maintain high standards of technical excellence

Key requirements

  • Degree-qualified in Engineering or related technical discipline
  • 25+ years in complex defence, nuclear, or highly regulated industries
  • Chartered status or recognised professional membership
  • Experience in NSQEP framework or capability to operate within NSQEP environments
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams through complex design and delivery
  • Strong background in design management or safety-critical/defence infrastructure
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Track record of developing high-performing teams and contributing to business growth
  • Technical publications or conference presentations (favourable)
  • AUKUS defence clearance is essential
