In this role you drive the delivery of vehicle software within the McLaren Development Process, aligning with the Feature Implementation Plan. You operate in a matrix setup to coordinate across teams and ensure on-time, on-budget results. You shape technology choices, oversee software architecture and platform delivery, and manage risks and changes. You partner with validation and engineering leads to maintain software maturity and performance. Responsibilities
- Lead Software & EE Architecture targets and deliverables across the vehicle programme with clear reporting to management
- Prepare and present Architecture MDP slides for gateways
- Ensure delivery against targets, KPIs, and milestones per the McLaren Development Process
- Support technology decisions with business cases and lifecycle planning
- Manage Software Change Requests and coordinate timing with the Software Integration engineer
- Contribute to decision meetings with concise technical data and implications
- Define and deliver the Feature Implementation Plan (FIP) aligned with development plan and gateways
- Create and cascade Software Platform plans and ensure stakeholder feedback and dependency management
- Monitor platform maturity and timing; advise on compatibility and late/incomplete deliveries
- Collaborate with Lead Validation Engineer on stress testing and risk identification; track fixes
- Produce platform issue dashboards and close critical issues
- Lead cross-functional root cause analysis for system-level issues
- Act as the primary point of contact for SW & EE Architecture within the Programme
- Coordinate with Electrical Systems TPM on budget, resources, tooling, and BOM costs
- Promote Simultaneous Engineering to maximize early stakeholder engagement and avoid delays
Key requirements
- Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree (2:1 or above)
- Proven project leadership and delivery of automotive software programmes within APQP/ASPICE or similar
- Experience on high-volume or niche automotive programs (OEM or Tier 1)
- Strong problem-solving skills for electro-mechanical systems
- Knowledge of DFMEA and its automotive application
- Knowledge of automotive communication protocols: Ethernet, CAN, LIN
- Experience with project/issue tracking tools such as Mantis or Jira
