Principal AI Platform Engineer

Overview

In this role you will shape the technical direction of an AI-native Internal Developer Platform to empower product and engineering teams. You will drive self-service capabilities, reusable patterns, and governance to scale software delivery across Vodafone’s cloud ecosystem. You’ll partner with cross-functional teams to align platform capabilities with business priorities, while advancing reliability and developer experience. This is an opportunity to lead a high-impact platform transformation at enterprise scale with AI-driven workflows.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the platform roadmap as a product with adoption, reliability, and DX outcomes
• Design self-service capabilities, golden paths, and standard templates to simplify provisioning
• Contribute to cloud-native architecture including Kubernetes, networking, secrets, observability, CI/CD and IaC
• Integrate AI-assisted workflows to speed delivery, improve code quality, and automate operations
• Establish governance and security guardrails via policy-as-code and auditable patterns
• Improve reliability with SLOs, observability, resilience engineering, and incident learning
• Collaborate with product, engineering, security, and architecture teams to align capabilities with priorities
• Drive efficiency and sustainability through automation, standardisation, and FinOps-informed practices

Key requirements

• Experience designing and operating internal developer platforms, cloud-native platforms, or large-scale distributed systems in complex enterprises
• Expertise across cloud platforms, Kubernetes, IaC, CI/CD, observability, service networking, and platform security
• Proficient in at least one modern language (Python, Go, or Java); experience building platform APIs and developer tooling
• Advocate for AI-native engineering, automation, and intelligent operations
• Familiar with platform-as-a-product, adoption metrics, and DX optimization
• Experience defining reliability objectives (SLOs), monitoring, alerting, and incident-driven improvements
• Strong stakeholder engagement, mentorship, and ability to translate strategy into scalable solutions
