Overview

Ambitious leadership role to establish and grow a brand-new UK freight forwarding unit within an international logistics group. You will own the UK operation across sea, road, air freight and customs, building a high-performing team and delivering growth and profitability. You’ll work with the backing of an established network while shaping strategy, processes and customer relationships to create a sustainable, autonomous business. This is a blank-sheet opportunity for someone who can think strategically, execute quickly, and drive cross-functional impact. You will be central to scaling UK operations and P&L ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and develop the new UK freight forwarding business unit
  • Create and implement the UK commercial and growth strategy
  • Develop new business across sea, ocean, road, air freight and customs
  • Leverage industry knowledge and relationships to grow opportunities
  • Identify and secure new UK customers
  • Build, recruit, coach and develop a high-performing team
  • Manage day-to-day operation and overall P&L for the UK unit
  • Forecast, budget, and monitor financial performance
  • Maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, agents and international partners
  • Collaborate with the wider international operation to maximise global opportunities
  • Develop processes and systems to support growth
  • Identify new revenue streams and commercial opportunities
  • Negotiate agreements and secure profitable business
  • Provide regular commercial and operational reporting to senior management
  • Build a sustainable and scalable UK operation

Key requirements

  • Proven experience in freight forwarding / international logistics
  • Experience across multiple freight modes (ideally sea, road, air)
  • Strong understanding of customs and international freight processes
  • Experience managing and developing a team
  • Proven business development and new business generation experience
  • Strong commercial awareness with P&L and budgeting experience
  • Confident building relationships with customers, suppliers and international partners
  • Established network of customers and contacts preferred
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to build from the ground up
  • Commercially driven with focus on sustainable, profitable growth
  • Autonomous decision-maker with strong leadership and people development skills
