Overview
In this role you will lead electrical safety within the Environment Division, overseeing authorised persons and ensuring compliance with Electrical Safety Standards across projects. You’ll partner with project leads, safety teams, and suppliers to shape safe systems of work and regulatory adherence. You’ll provide expert electrical safety guidance, mentor engineers, and support incident investigations. This is a chance to influence safety culture and engineering delivery on UK water projects.

Responsibilities
- Assess, appoint, and audit Electrical Authorised Persons within the Environment Division
- Monitor electrical safety operations for compliance with standards and rules
- Advise on procurement of suitable contractors from an electrical safety perspective
- mentor and coach potential and existing Electrical Authorised Persons
- act as Subject Matter Expert on Electrical Safety and support health and safety incident investigations
- ensure electrical activities, safe systems of work, and assets comply with legislation
- review safe systems of work for delivery by the Environment Division and contractors
- advise on safe and effective implementation of engineering safety and oversight of supply chain delivery
- assist project delivery teams for CDM compliance and pre-contract personnel appointments
- maintain high personal safety, integrity, and collaboration standards
- leadership and direction to design teams and drive delivery results
Key requirements
- Good understanding of relevant legislation
- High-level knowledge of LV/HV electrical, control & instrumentation equipment
- Previous Authorising Engineer / Authorised Person experience
- Experience in electrical works within Municipal Water and Wastewater industries
- Experience identifying and reporting engineering safety risks to senior management
- HV experience desirable
- DSEAR experience desirable
- Knowledge of C&G 2382-18 BS7671 18th Edition and NICEIC certificates
- Degree level in Engineering or equivalent preferable
- +7 years’ experience in Municipal Water and Wastewater industries
- Chartered member of a professional engineering body preferred
- Formal appointment as Electrical Authorised Person
- Formal appointment as Electrical Authorising Engineer preferable but not essential
- ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, NEBOSH desirable but not essential
- Experience reviewing subcontractors’ documentation
- Knowledge of current H&S legislation and British Standards
- Coaching and mentoring ability
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
