Scientific Director

Overview

As Scientific Director, you guide scientific excellence across multi‑writer projects for pharmaceutical and biotech clients. You contribute strategic scientific leadership to accounts and liaise with cross‑functional teams to shape compelling medical communications. You oversee content quality, support business development, and mentor junior staff, ensuring adherence to best practices. This role blends science, strategic insight, and client collaboration to advance asset portfolios from discovery to market.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi‑writer projects and assist with resourcing
• Demonstrate scientific and commercial insight across activities
• Oversee content across complex projects and therapy areas
• Review scientific content and mentor others
• Produce client‑ready deliverables and ensure process compliance
• Provide feedback on budgeted scientific components and milestones
• Share updates on medical/regulatory milestones and potential new business
• Participate in strategic planning and cross‑functional collaboration
• Support business development and pitches
• Lead and develop junior team members and manage performance
• Drive group presentations and coaching, sharing knowledge

Key requirements

• Degree level in a relevant science subject or 6+ years’ medical communications writing experience
• Experience writing across medical communications media
• Previous line management experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent English written and verbal communication
