Associate Geotechnical Engineer

Overview

As a Senior to Associate Geotechnical Engineer in our London office, you will help grow a multidisciplinary geotechnical team and deliver geotechnical design solutions across UK and international projects. You’ll collaborate with structural, civil, and bridge disciplines to design foundations, earth structures, and deep basements, while engaging with clients and external partners. The role blends technical delivery with project leadership, commercial awareness, and mentoring of junior engineers. You will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment that values sustainability and cross‑regional experience.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design of foundations and earth structures (deep foundations, rafts, piled rafts)
• Develop site investigations, reports, specifications, and testing regimes independently
• Prepare proposals and manage commercial aspects of quoting projects
• Lead project inception through budgeting, resourcing, and revenue recognition
• Coordinate with external partners and clients and grow a client network
• Supervise and mentor junior geotechnical engineers
• Review colleagues’ work and provide constructive feedback
• Support multi-disciplinary design across office disciplines (buildings, bridges, civil)
• Engage in project design at concept to execution stages
• Maintain familiarity with industry bodies and sustainability initiatives

Key requirements

• Relevant geotechnical engineering experience (consultancy or construction)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Independently draft reports, specifications, testing regimes, and site investigations
• Capability to manage projects commercially and deliver strong outcomes
• Comfortable working with external partners and clients
• Sound technical background in foundation solutions, soil-structure interaction, deep excavations, earthworks
• Proficiency with required software tools listed below
