Operations Manager

Overview

In this role you will oversee the Manchester depot’s waste collections, street cleansing and recycling operations. You will lead supervisors and ensure safe, efficient delivery while meeting contract KPIs and client expectations. You’ll manage safety, training, reporting and financial targets, and foster strong relationships with the client and internal/external stakeholders. This position offers scope to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence in a critical municipal service.

Responsibilities

• Ensure health and safety, policy adherence and legal obligations across staff, updating safety procedures as needed
• Maintain training records and oversee induction and ongoing development
• Cultivate client and stakeholder relationships and attend meetings; deliver required contract reports on time
• Support financial targets, overtime, staffing and revenue fulfilment; monitor budgets with Senior Business Manager
• Supervise operations to meet contract standards and address performance or conduct issues under policy
• Continuously review waste collection and street cleansing to improve efficiency and financial performance
• Ensure safe operation and maintenance of all equipment; ensure staff are trained before use
• Maintain records and systems for compliant contract operations, including KPI reporting and information requests
• Assist in achieving business objectives and procedural compliance

Key requirements

• Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) – Transport
• People and health and safety management in a unionised environment (disclipline, grievances, recruitment etc.)
• Proven track record delivering service delivery KPI’s
• Experience of vehicle management – CPC, tachographs, Road Transport Directive
• Proven track record of continuous improvement in an operational/service environment
• Experience producing/analyzing reports using Microsoft Office Suite
• General knowledge of environmental responsibilities and health and safety legislation
• Ability to manage conflict and negotiate outcomes
• Analytical with ability to measure, monitor data and take corrective action
