Account Manager, Transport – Rail, Central Government, Transport

Overview

In this role, you drive revenue growth and shape AWS adoption across the UK rail sector, partnering with GBR, Network Rail, and other public railway bodies. You’ll articulate compelling cloud-native solutions—data platforms, AI-enabled maintenance, and digital architectures—to modernise safety-critical infrastructure while aligning with government priorities. You’ll build broad senior-leader relationships, influence transformation programs, and help GBR achieve reliability, efficiency, and passenger focus. This is a strategic, impact-driven opportunity to accelerate cloud adoption in a highly regulated, politically sensitive environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive revenue growth and market share across the UK Rail territory (GBR, Network Rail, DfTO, Rail Delivery Group, and publicly-owned TOCs)
• Develop and execute a comprehensive account development plan aligned with GBR transformation and Railways Bill timelines
• Build and maintain long-term strategic relationships with senior leaders across GBR, Network Rail, DfTO, TOCs, and the Office of Rail and Road
• Articulate and promote value propositions for AWS services (unified data platforms, AI/ML-powered predictive maintenance, IoT asset monitoring, cloud-native passenger info systems)
• Identify opportunities in multi-cloud displacement, legacy mainframe migration, unified ticketing/retail platforms, digital twins, real-time performance management, and timetable optimisation
• Coordinate and manage partner ecosystems to meet partner-attached rate targets and extend reach with rail SI and ISV partners
• Understand safety-critical, regulated environment requirements and collaborate with Solutions Architects and Professional Services to shape compliant solutions
• Engage with policy makers, rail industry bodies, and delivery partners (RSSB, Transport Focus, devolved authorities)
• Present business reviews to senior management on progress, pipeline, and expansion blockers
• Participate in cross-functional work sessions with Solutions Architects, partners, and customers to shape rail modernization proposals

Key requirements

• Experience developing, negotiating and executing business agreements
• Experience developing strategies that influence leadership decisions at the organizational level
• Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
• Experience in transportation operations and industry knowledge (preferred)
• Experience interpreting data and making business recommendations (preferred)
• Experience identifying, negotiating, and executing complex legal agreements (preferred)
• Knowledge of cloud computing technologies (preferred)
• Experience with government procurement and contracting processes (preferred)
• Experience working with Systems Integrators and Consulting Companies to achieve sales (preferred)
