Research Engineer – Digital & Simulation

Overview

In this role, you will develop and deploy AI-powered solutions to address manufacturing and engineering challenges within GKN’s Global Technology Centre. You’ll work with engineers, operations, and IT to apply AI, agents, and decision-support tools to boost productivity and performance. The role suits curious, technically minded individuals with a passion for emerging AI tech, including those from academic or early-career backgrounds. You’ll contribute to digital transformation and cross-functional initiatives that shape aerospace manufacturing at scale.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI agents, copilots, and intelligent automation solutions
• Build AI applications using LLMs, APIs, and enterprise data sources
• Prototype and evaluate new AI technologies for manufacturing and engineering use cases
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and IT teams to solve business challenges
• Support the deployment and adoption of AI and digital transformation initiatives

Key requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Engineering, Data Science, or related STEM discipline or equivalent practical experience
• Understanding of AI, machine learning, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI agents
• Experience with Python or other software development languages
• Industrial project experience with clear solution deployment
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently
