Primary Substation Design Engineer (Energy)

Overview

In this role you will design and specify HV/EHV substations (11kV–132kV), producing drawings, layouts and technical specs. You’ll review supplier and client designs for compliance, manage CDM Designer responsibilities, and support site changes to keep projects on time and within scope. You’ll build strong client relationships while contributing to landmark projects globally. Responsibilities

• Produce design drawings for Grid and Primary substations
• Prepare technical specifications for electrical plant and substation upgrades/new substations (11kV–132kV)
• Create feasibility reports, cost estimates, layouts and GA’s; draft plant specifications (transformers, switchgear, battery systems)
• Review designs from suppliers and clients for technical compliance and policy alignment
• Ensure designs meet contract requirements and client specifications
• Fulfill the role of CDM Designer and/or Principal Designer for HV/EHV projects
• Identify and manage health and safety risks with the project team
• Attend site meetings to support design or requirement changes during construction
• Align design work with programme, quality, and margin; develop external/internal client relationships
• Apply knowledge of HV/EHV plant specification, 11kV–132kV design, load calculations and rating studies

Key requirements

• HV and EHV substation design experience (AIS & GIS) 11kV–132kV
• HNC Electrical Engineering
• Exposure to substation cable design, protection and control
• Experience on small to technically complex substation projects (new, retrofit, or reinforcement)
• Knowledge of HV/EHV engineering standards and policies, including earthing and electrical clearances
• Ability to interpret technical documentation for substation design
• Design cost estimation experience
• Excellent understanding of H&S and CDM requirements; ability to act as Designer/Principal Designer
