Overview

In this role you will oversee the day-to-day operation of Virgin Media O₂’s Government Security function, ensuring stable, secure services in compliance with legal obligations. You will support customers, lead complex fault investigations, and contribute to testing and future capability development. You’ll work across core network technologies with internal teams and external vendors on high-impact projects to keep networks safe and resilient. The role suits curious, hands-on technologists who adapt to evolving tech and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Security function to ensure reliability and compliance
  • Support customers and coordinate with internal teams and external vendors
  • Lead complex fault investigations and drive resolution
  • Carry out integration and verification testing and shape future capabilities
  • Define testing scope for existing and emerging technologies
  • Coordinate with suppliers and provide updates to project and stakeholder groups
  • Work across core network technologies and contribute to major projects
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers for seamless delivery

Key requirements

  • Working knowledge of mobile networking (packet core, IMS, and voice core)
  • Apply complex fault analysis and resolution techniques to restore service swiftly
  • Learn quickly and adapt to new challenges with minimal guidance
  • Handle conflicting priorities instinctively
  • Team-oriented with ability to work without supervision
  • Strong troubleshooting methodology
  • Effective cross-team communication, including with senior leadership
  • Proficiency in Linux system administration
  • Create high-quality technical documentation
  • Implement health-check monitoring and automation schedules for operational integrity
  • Exposure to operational monitoring/troubleshooting tools (Zabbix, Grafana)
  • Support for operational testing and system integration
  • Awareness of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (IPA)
