Overview
In this role, you will lead mechanical design delivery on Scotland water projects within a multidisciplinary team, shaping sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure from design through construction. You’ll collaborate with civil, electrical, and process engineers to drive design excellence and ensure value for customers in Scotland. You’ll engage in design reviews, surveys, and liaison with clients and contractors, enabling high-impact, scalable outcomes aligned with net-zero goals. This position offers hybrid work and opportunities to influence large-scale projects, including the SR27 Enterprise.

Responsibilities
- Prepare feasibility studies, outline and detailed design, and construction support
- Produce plant layouts, mechanical drawings and specifications (including WIMES data sheets, valve and equipment schedules, lifting strategies, headloss calculations, and P&IDs)
- Collaborate with water, civil, electrical, process and mechanical engineers nationwide
- Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers
- Lead and contribute to design review meetings (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs, SWIFTS)
- Act as Mechanical Lead on projects (WwTW, WTW, infrastructure) and support PM/Design Lead to deliver mechanical scope on time and budget
- Assist PM to set realistic programmes and budgets for Mechanical projects
- Line manage Mechanical Graduates, Engineers and Senior Engineers
Key requirements
- Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution (e.g., IMechE)
- Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations
- Hands-on experience delivering water and wastewater engineering projects
