Overview

In this role you will contribute to teaching and research in engineering materials, covering metals, polymers, ceramics and composites for mechanical and marine engineering applications. You will lead on experiential teaching and interdisciplinary research, leveraging a suite of Materials Analysis and Nanomaterials laboratories to generate real-world impact. You will collaborate across internal and external partners to shape curricula and drive research that benefits the engineering sector. This position offers the chance to influence student development and support innovative materials solutions within SECaM and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage teaching, research and recruitment activities across materials topics
  • Design and deliver experiential teaching aligned with research and industry needs
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations and external partnerships with potential for impact
  • Coordinate use of dedicated laboratories (Materials Analysis, Nanomaterials, Composites, Energy & Sustainability, Digital Fabrication)
  • Engage in student recruitment activities and support outreach initiatives
  • Contribute to securing research funding and managing funded projects
  • Collaborate with internal and external academics and industry to translate research into practice

Key requirements

  • PhD in materials science or materials engineering or closely related discipline
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for experiential and inspirational teaching informed by research or industrial experience
  • Track record of engaging with industry partners to develop impactful research or shown aptitude to build such engagement
  • Track record of attracting research funding or clear plan to secure funding
