Overview

As Senior Scientific Editor, you will shape One Earth’s climate content and editorial direction, overseeing peer review and engaging with researchers. You’ll curate high-impact climate-focused content, commission Reviews and Perspectives, and develop thematic issues that address pressing sustainability challenges. You will collaborate with a global community, represent the journal at events, and contribute to digital content and editorial strategy. This role offers a meaningful opportunity to influence climate discourse within a premier sustainability journal.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, recruit, and develop high-impact climate content across mitigation, adaptation, impacts, and related sustainability areas
  • Evaluate manuscripts and manage peer review to ensure rigor, fairness, and efficiency
  • Select and collaborate with expert reviewers
  • Engage with authors to provide guidance and a strong author experience
  • Commission and edit Reviews, Perspectives, and other front-matter content
  • Ideate and execute thematic issues aligning with sustainability challenges
  • Contribute to editorial strategy and portfolio positioning within Cell Press
  • Build and maintain relationships with the global scientific and sustainability community
  • Represent the journal at conferences, workshops, and institutional visits
  • Contribute to digital content including the journal homepage and social media

Key requirements

  • PhD, or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Previous editorial experience is preferred
  • Broad interest across sustainability research
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to evaluate diverse areas of science
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international team
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Established research networks (preferred, especially for more senior candidates)
