Senior Software Engineer, AI Centre of Excellence

Overview

As a Senior AI Engineer in Checkout.com’s AI Centre of Excellence, you will drive the adoption of Generative AI to transform operations and innovation. You’ll mentor peers, set engineering standards, and shape AI strategy while delivering AI solutions with cross-functional teams. You’ll design scalable AI infrastructure, build APIs, and deploy LLM-based applications that enhance products and streamline processes. This role offers responsibility for impactful AI initiatives at scale within a fast-paced fintech environment.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product managers, data scientists and engineers to validate and deliver high-impact Generative AI use cases
• Design and build APIs and microservices integrating AI capabilities into workflows
• Develop, fine-tune, and deploy LLM-based applications (e.g., chatbots, knowledge extraction tools)
• Architect scalable AI infrastructure on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) with containerisation and IaC
• Implement CI/CD pipelines and enforce best practices for secure, compliant AI deployment
• Build intuitive interfaces for interacting with AI features
• Continuously optimise AI systems for performance, reliability and scalability

Key requirements

• Hands-on experience with LLMs (e.g., GPT, BERT, Llama, Gemini) and real-world applications
• Strong backend engineering with RESTful APIs and microservices design
• Proficiency in Python/JavaScript; familiarity with AI frameworks (LangChain, PydanticAI)
• Solid understanding of cloud computing (AWS, GCP, Azure), containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and IaC (Terraform)
• Proven problem-solving skills; thrives in fast-paced environments
