Overview
As Principal Building Surveyor, you will provide technical leadership, guiding multi-disciplinary teams and key stakeholders. You will drive the delivery of complex building surveying projects, oversee budgets, and steer client engagement and bid activity. You will ensure compliance with Building Regulations and CDM 2015, while mentoring junior staff and representing the firm in high-impact assignments. Responsibilities
- Act as a technical team leader and provide guidance to technical teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers
- Lead preparation and checking of technical reports, specifications, drawings, schedules of work and project documentation
- Take responsibility for commercial success, including budget control and delivery costs
- Manage and influence multidisciplinary teams across projects, offices and client accounts
- Lead and deliver professional building surveying services (condition surveys, measured surveys, defect diagnosis, dilapidations, Party Wall)
- Prepare specifications for remedial works and oversee delivery to completion
- Act as Contract Administrator and provide project management support across refurbishments, maintenance and capital works
- Engage with clients, contractors, consultants and suppliers to build trusted relationships
- Present technical proposals, updates and recommendations to clients and stakeholders
- Lead and contribute to bid preparation, framework submissions and work-winning activities
- Manage project risks with mitigation throughout lifecycles
- Act as Principal Designer when required and ensure CDM 2015 compliance
- Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, planning requirements and other legislation
- Lead project teams across diverse sectors and environments
- Undertake site inspections, surveys and site-based assignments as needed
- Provide mentoring and professional development support to junior colleagues
- Undertake people management responsibilities when required
Key requirements
- Professionally qualified with a relevant degree and Chartered membership of RICS, CIOB or equivalent
- Significant post-qualification experience in a building surveying consultancy
- Extensive experience delivering professional and project-based surveying services
- Broad experience across defect diagnosis, condition surveys, dilapidations, Party Wall matters and specification writing
- Strong knowledge of contract administration and project delivery
- Thorough understanding of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
- Experience undertaking duties associated with the Principal Designer role
- Strong understanding of Building Regulations and statutory requirements
- Excellent knowledge of design, specification and project delivery processes
- Advanced capability in surveying software and analytical tools
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with clients and senior stakeholders
- Strong commercial awareness and experience managing budgets and financial performance
- Experience managing health, safety and welfare requirements on projects
- Strong leadership and influencing skills for multidisciplinary teams
