Overview
As Technical Manager, you will lead the technical delivery of renewable energy projects from due diligence to operations. You will coordinate multi-discipline workstreams across onshore wind, solar, BESS, and grid infrastructure, ensuring safety, quality, and grid compliance. You will manage grid connections with DNOs, TSOs, and partners while aligning with commercial and programme goals. This role supports Liberty Global’s mission to accelerate decarbonisation and electrification through the egg initiatives. Responsibilities
- Oversee technical delivery of renewable energy projects from acquisition to operations
- Lead due diligence for RTB and late-stage developments, identifying technical and grid risks
- Coordinate technical workstreams across onshore wind, solar, BESS, substations and associated infrastructure
- Support project execution strategies, construction methods, and delivery schedules
- Review and manage engineering deliverables, specs, drawings, and design packages
- Ensure compliance with standards, grid requirements, and contractual obligations
- Support commissioning, energisation, testing, and handover to asset management
- Coordinate grid connection activities with DNOs, National Grid, ICPs, OEMs, and Owner’s Engineers
- Manage grid connection processes from offer to testing and compliance
- Oversee substations, HV infrastructure, protection, SCADA, and grid compliance
- Coordinate grid studies, testing, and assessments related to grid code
- Assist optimisation of grid performance and export capacity across assets
- Monitor grid-related risks, outages, and programme impacts
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning
- Resolve technical issues and coordinate interfaces between civil, electrical, and mechanical workstreams
- Participate in progress meetings, technical reviews, FATs, SATs, and commissioning
- Tendering and contractor management; monitor performance and quality
- Promote HSEQ culture and report to senior management and project partners
- Build strong relationships with internal and external project teams
Key requirements
- 5–10 years’ experience delivering utility-scale renewable energy or infrastructure projects
- Strong experience in onshore wind, solar PV, BESS, and grid connection
- Background in IPP, developer, EPC, utility, consultancy, or Owner’s Engineer environments
- Solid understanding of HV systems, substations, grid compliance, energisation
- Experience managing interfaces across development, engineering, construction, and operations
- Familiarity with UK grid connection processes and renewable energy regulations
- Strong commercial awareness and risk management in projects
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management/reporting tools
