Senior Design Manager

Overview

In this Senior Design Manager role you will own the design management across multiple schemes from pre-construction to delivery. You will work with internal teams, consultants, and stakeholders to drive design coordination, quality, and programme certainty. You’ll lead design processes, manage outputs, and assess risks and buildability for complex, high-profile developments. This is a multi-site role with a focus on delivering technically challenging projects for a Tier 1 contractor.

Responsibilities

• Lead design management across pre-construction to delivery on multiple schemes
• Coordinate and oversee consultant and subcontractor design outputs
• Ensure design compliance with statutory/regulatory and employer’s requirements
• Perform design assurance, technical reviews, and buildability assessments
• Identify and manage design risks and drive value engineering
• Lead design change control with programme and cost implications
• Maintain records of design submissions, approvals, and revisions
• Collaborate with construction, commercial, and procurement teams
• Provide leadership and mentoring to Design Managers in the team

Key requirements

• Proven track record as Senior Design Manager or Design Manager on major projects
• Experience with a Tier 1 or large main contractor
• Strong understanding of RIBA Stages 3-6
• Background delivering complex, site-based projects
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage complex design interfaces
• Excellent communication, coordination, and leadership skills
• Relevant professional qualification (desirable)
