Overview

As a Senior Estimator at Stantec you will lead and coordinate capital cost estimates for mining and mineral processing projects, guiding cross-disciplinary teams through multi-phase studies. You will partner with estimators, schedulers, and engineers to deliver robust, defendable estimates for large-scale ventures worldwide. The role blends technical estimation with project leadership, ensuring alignment with design milestones and client expectations. Responsibilities

  • Supervise multi-discipline cost estimates and construction schedules to ensure timely delivery
  • Lead mining studies and program-level estimating efforts (PEA, PFS, FS, execution, sustaining capital)
  • Develop detailed estimates across mining, process plants, civil, mechanical, electrical, tailings, water management, and site infrastructure
  • Coordinate input from estimating disciplines and validate takeoffs/quantities
  • Create estimate execution plans including methodology, staffing, and schedules
  • Prepare labor plans and basis of estimate deliverables
  • Establish site-specific estimating criteria and productivity rates
  • Perform quality control of documents and provide design solutions
  • Support procurement, change, and claims valuation processes
  • Develop constructability reviews and communicate with clients and stakeholders
  • Maintain awareness of industry trends and apply best practices to improve estimates

Key requirements

  • Extensive cost/estimating and engineering design knowledge
  • Experience estimating mining and mineral processing projects (open pit, underground, processing plants, tailings, water management)
  • Proven ability to lead large studies and coordinate multiple disciplines
  • Multi-discipline estimating experience coordinating civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other scopes
  • Experience with contract methods and database-based estimating platforms
  • Proficiency with scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project)
  • Travel willingness for site work and client interfacing
  • Strong client-facing skills and ability to present estimates to teams and clients
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • 10+ years in estimating/construction roles; field/contractor-side or preconstruction experience preferred
