Structural Director: Head of Design

Overview

In this role you lead the design direction for a portfolio of large, technically challenging structural projects within a global multidisciplinary practice. You will act as a design ambassador, promoting architectural-led design and BIM-enabled delivery, while shaping the client relationship and project outcomes. You report into the London head of structures and collaborate with Project Directors to steer projects. The role combines leadership, design excellence, and business development to grow the studio’s presence with architects and clients. This is a high-visibility opportunity to influence premium projects and firm reputation.

Responsibilities

• Win business and develop new contacts with architects and existing ones to build annual targets
• Act as a design ambassador and promote design credentials
• Lead the design of a portfolio of projects as Project Manager in partnership with a Project Director
• Be the principal client contact as Project Director with mentoring support from a Director
• Coordinate all aspects of design delivery across multiple projects
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate structural design with other disciplines

Key requirements

• Minimum 8 years post-chartered experience (IStructE or ICE)
• Proven track record in design and project delivery across multiple structural materials and systems
• Proven experience as a structural designer
