Overview

As Engineering Manager for Cloud Azure PaaS, you lead a multi-skilled team responsible for building and operating a Kubernetes-based Platform-as-a-Service on Microsoft Azure. You will drive platform reliability, security, and performance while enabling cross-team delivery and end-to-end responsibility for products. You shape a world-class engineering function, advocate Agile practices, and foster an inclusive, collaborative culture. This role offers impact at scale within a leading UK retailer’s tech organisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach a multi-disciplinary engineering team to deliver end-to-end cloud platform solutions
• Drive reliability, operability, security posture, and continuous improvement of the platform
• Define vision and technical direction with Product Managers and Engineers
• Manage budgets and ensure adherence to processes and standards
• Promote best engineering practices and agile/lean delivery methodologies
• Own change and service management for platform initiatives
• Recruit diverse talent and foster a culture of collaboration and learning

Key requirements

• Proven line management experience and ability to hire and develop engineers
• Experience leading a Platform-as-a-Service or platform engineering team
• Strong Kubernetes/AKS and Microsoft Azure expertise
• Experience running 24/7 production services, incident management, and disaster recovery
• Experience evolving engineering standards, SDLC, and agile ways of working
• Strong stakeholder management with internal customer teams
