Overview

As a Mechanical Handling Equipment Engineer you will lead the design and delivery of cranes, hoists, and lifting systems for highly regulated projects, including nuclear and defence infrastructure. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the full project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning, ensuring safety, quality, and regulatory alignment. The role offers relocation to Adelaide and a path to technical leadership while contributing to critical infrastructure that supports clients and communities. You’ll work in a dynamic, safety-focused environment with a strong emphasis on lifecycle reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and engineering of mechanical handling systems to meet project, operational, and regulatory requirements
  • Develop and review technical specifications, calculations, and design documentation across design phases
  • Collaborate with structural, civil, electrical, controls, and building services teams to integrate systems
  • Conduct optioneering, load path/heavy-lift assessments, constructability reviews, and risk assessments
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and delivery
  • Support safety cases, engineering justifications, procurement, vendor reviews, and technical bid evaluations for safety-significant equipment
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities to ensure performance and operational readiness
  • Contribute to reliability, maintainability, inspection, and lifecycle requirements for critical lifting assets
  • Support project scope, programme, and delivery objectives

Key requirements

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience delivering crane, lifting, or mechanical handling systems on major infrastructure or highly regulated projects
  • Experience in nuclear industry or other highly regulated environment
  • Experience developing engineering documentation through concept to detailed design with safety and regulatory awareness
  • Demonstrated technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of mechanical handling equipment, load paths, and interfaces
  • Knowledge of safety-significant equipment, regulatory concepts, ALARP, and lifecycle requirements
  • Experience with requirements/configuration management, systems engineering, verification/validation, vendor management, and commissioning
