Overview

In this role you will lead building surveying activities within a growing Bristol team, delivering professional services on refurbishment and modernisation projects across public and private sectors. You will balance technical expertise with commercial awareness, nurture client relationships, and develop junior colleagues. The position offers clear long-term progression within a multidisciplinary environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive high-quality outcomes and contribute to business development.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver refurbishment, improvement and modernisation projects across multiple sectors
  • Carry out building surveys, inspections and condition assessments
  • Prepare specifications, drawings, feasibility studies, client requirements and technical reports
  • Obtain estimates and support statutory approval processes
  • Administer contracts using JCT and NEC forms
  • Manage regional projects and provide professional Building Surveying advice to clients
  • Support senior management with day-to-day project and team activities
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships
  • Mentor and support junior Building Surveyors, including those pursuing the RICS APC
  • Line manage and develop junior team members
  • Support business development activities including bids and tenders
  • Maintain high standards across quality, health & safety and environmental requirements
  • Possibly work towards an NEC Supervisor qualification

Key requirements

  • BSc (Hons) in Building Surveying or other RICS-accredited degree
  • MRICS status preferred with relevant post-qualification experience
  • Strong technical Building Surveying knowledge with a track record across varied projects
  • Experience managing client relationships and delivering professional service
  • Good commercial awareness including profitability and business development
  • Experience mentoring or developing junior colleagues
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, workloads and deadlines
  • Strong technical report writing and documentation skills
  • Solid understanding of health & safety and statutory compliance
  • Experience in dilapidations, Party Wall, fire risk or access assessments advantageous
  • Strong IT skills with Word and Excel
  • Experience using AutoCAD and NBS; Revit would be an advantage
