Senior Software Engineer II – Cash Management

Overview

In this role you will shape the technical direction of Wise’s global payments network within the Wise for Banks team. You lead scalable, reliable Java-based services and event-driven infrastructure that connect banks to Wise, influencing architecture across hundreds of microservices. You’ll mentor engineers, raise standards, and align engineering efforts with company goals while deepening expertise in correspondent banking and interbank networks. This is a hands-on, leadership-focused opportunity to impact cross-border payments at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, resilient services in Java/Spring Boot within a microservices ecosystem
• Model complex financial domains using domain-driven design for scalable solutions
• Drive event-driven architecture with Kafka or similar messaging systems for reliable, scalable systems
• Architect and optimize PostgreSQL-based relational databases for performance and reliability
• Collaborate with Product, Implementation, Solutions Engineering, and Business Development to enable partner integrations
• Provide technical leadership across teams and uphold engineering standards
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and planning while promoting best practices in distributed systems
• Mentor engineers and foster a culture of learning, ownership, and collaboration

Key requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot in production
• Strong experience designing and operating large-scale distributed microservices architectures
• Proven ability to design event-driven systems using Kafka or similar technologies
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational data modelling for high-scale workloads
• Experience applying domain-driven design to model complex business domains
• Track record of architecting and delivering complex, high-scale systems
• Demonstrated technical leadership and cross-team influence
• Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience mentoring engineers and raising technical standards
