Overview
In this role you lead the Tunnelling & Underground Structures Team in Birmingham, shaping the UK business strategy and delivering complex tunnelling projects. You’ll balance leadership with hands-on technical delivery across a pipeline of design work in the UK and overseas. You’ll mentor colleagues, develop client relationships, and drive safe, efficient project execution. The role offers the chance to influence workplace culture and contribute to a global infrastructure mission.

Responsibilities
- Uphold safety as the core priority across office and site activities, conduct risk assessments, and promote incident learning
- Lead local work winning and business development, including client/stakeholder relationship management and bid reviews
- Ensure data quality and forecasting for regional reporting, including safety, pipeline, and financial indicators
- Provide leadership to set team culture, encourage collaboration, and boost morale and productivity
- Foster an inclusive, collaborative environment with clear goals and rewards, and engage with clients and industry bodies to position AECOM for bids
Key requirements
- Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering
- Chartered Engineer status (EI, ICE, IStructE or equivalent)
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in rock and soft ground tunnelling, shafts, deep excavations for transport, energy and utilities
- Experience on large multi-disciplinary projects and ability to interface with different disciplines
- Willingness to undertake roles such as Technical Lead, Design Manager or Project Manager and lead bids
