Overview
As Operational Excellence Manager, you lead improvement, assurance, governance and risk management across shore-based and vessel operations to support safe, reliable, and efficient offshore activities. You’ll own the operational excellence framework and collaborate with fleet, technical teams and offshore personnel, while mentoring a small team. Your work drives QHSE, technical performance and regulatory compliance within a global maritime context. This role offers influence across both shore and sea operations and a clear chance to shape safety and performance culture.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the operational excellence strategy for the business and fleet
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across marine, technical and QHSE operations
- Maintain and improve the management system, governance framework and procedures
- Ensure compliance with ISM, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and relevant marine regulations
- Develop assurance, audit and verification programmes across vessel and shore-based operations
- Identify and manage operational and technical risks across the fleet
- Support investigations into incidents and ensure root causes and corrective actions are addressed
- Provide governance and support to fleet management and vessel teams
- Develop KPIs, dashboards and performance reporting covering QHSE, reliability and technical performance
- Identify improvement projects focused on fleet reliability, operational performance and efficiency
- Support the implementation of new technology, systems and working practices across the fleet
- Ensure planned maintenance and fleet management systems remain effective and fit for purpose
- Develop and maintain emergency response and crisis management arrangements
- Lead, coach and develop the operational excellence team
- Deliver internal workshops and training around continuous improvement, operational standards and culture
- Work with senior stakeholders, clients, suppliers and external authorities as required
Key requirements
- Previous experience in a senior Operational Excellence, QHSE, Marine Assurance or similar role
- Strong experience within the marine, offshore or vessel management sector
- Good understanding of marine operations, technical risk and vessel management
- Experience developing and maintaining management systems and governance frameworks
- Strong knowledge of ISM and ISO management standards
- Experience with audit, assurance, risk management and incident investigation
- Track record of successfully implementing operational improvement or change programmes
- Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills
- Experience working across international or multi-site operations would be advantageous
- A relevant Health & Safety, Quality, Marine or Operational Excellence qualification would be beneficial
- Lean or Six Sigma experience would also be advantageous
