Overview

As a Geo-environmental Engineer at Arup, you will strengthen our geo-environmental capability across the Midlands, Wales and West, working from Birmingham or Nottingham. You will support brownfield and contaminated land projects, lead ground investigations, and contribute to remediation planning within multidisciplinary teams. You’ll turn field and lab data into conceptual models and practical solutions that benefit clients and communities. Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of brownfield and contaminated land projects
  • Plan, deliver and interpret ground investigations and lab testing programs
  • Undertake contaminated land risk assessments, materials management assessments and remediation strategies
  • Analyze field and lab data to develop conceptual ground models
  • Prepare technical reports and communicate findings to teams, clients and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with geotechnical, environmental and multidisciplinary teams across Arup
  • Support client relationships through high-quality technical delivery and communication
  • Manage allocated work packages and support successful project delivery

Key requirements

  • Degree (and preferably postgraduate qualification) in Engineering Geology, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Geo-environmental Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience or strong academic understanding of contaminated land assessment, ground investigations and geo-environmental project delivery
  • Familiarity with UK legislation, guidance and best practice relating to land contamination, waste and materials management
  • Experience in desktop studies and interpreting ground investigation, laboratory and in-situ testing data
  • Ability to develop conceptual site models, assess ground-related risks and contribute to practical mitigation measures
  • Experience with OpenGround, Leapfrog or similar data management and interpretation tools would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of geo-environmental project work involving emerging contaminants (PFAS) is desirable
  • Ability to undertake contaminated land risk assessments including DQRA and modelling would be beneficial
  • Working towards Chartership with a relevant professional institution
