Live Here Love Here is an independent environmental charity focused on connecting people with nature through education, engagement and empowerment. Its work spans community engagement, environmental education and local environmental quality, helping people and communities across Northern Ireland take positive action for the environment.
The Role
The Funding and Business Manager will play a key role in strengthening Live Here Love Heres income generation and long-term financial sustainability. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the successful candidate will identify, develop and secure grants, funding and sponsorship opportunities, with a particular focus on growing unrestricted income.
This is a proactive, relationship-led role that combines funding research, bid writing, business development, sponsorship and partnership management. You will scan the funding landscape, develop persuasive applications and propositions, build relationships with grant-making bodies and sponsors, and maintain a clear pipeline of opportunities, deadlines and follow-up activity.
Working collaboratively across programmes, finance, communications and operations, you will bring together the evidence, budgets and impact information required to create strong funding propositions. You will also contribute to wider income generation planning and help develop strategic partnerships that strengthen the organisations resilience and ability to grow its impact.
The opportunity may particularly appeal to candidates currently working as a Funding Manager, Grants Manager, Business Development Manager, Fundraising Manager, Trusts and Foundations Manager, Partnerships Manager or Income Generation Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Funding and Income Generation
- Proactively identify, research and assess grant, sponsorship and other funding opportunities aligned with Live Here Love Heres objectives.
- Lead the drafting, coordination and submission of compelling, accurate and timely funding applications.
- Develop opportunities to grow unrestricted income and strengthen long-term financial sustainability.
- Contribute to organisational income generation planning by identifying realistic prospects, priorities and timelines.
- Maintain an organised pipeline of opportunities, submissions, outcomes and follow-up actions.
Funder, Sponsor and Partner Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with grant-making bodies, funding providers and prospective funders.
- Develop and manage sponsor and social value partner relationships.
- Ensure funders and sponsors receive professional, clear and timely communications.
- Support the development of strategic funding and sponsorship partnerships that enable Live Here Love Here to grow its reach and impact.
Bid Development and Internal Collaboration
- Work with colleagues across programmes, finance, communications and operations to gather budgets, evidence, outputs and impact information.
- Develop clear and persuasive funding propositions tailored to funder priorities.
- Ensure submissions are evidence-based, compliant with funder requirements and aligned with organisational strategy and messaging.
- Advise the Chief Operating Officer on relevant funding opportunities and priorities.
Business Development and Continuous Improvement
- Capture learning from successful and unsuccessful applications to strengthen future funding approaches.
- Work collaboratively with the Senior Executive team to provide wider business support.
- Represent Live Here Love Here professionally in funding and sponsorship discussions.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Degree-level education or equivalent relevant experience in fundraising, grants, business development or partnership income generation.
- At least two years experience in a comparable or equivalent role.
- Demonstrable experience identifying funding opportunities and preparing successful applications to grant-making bodies, trusts, foundations, public-sector funding programmes or public-sector contracts.
- Experience building and maintaining professional relationships with funders, sponsors or external stakeholders.
- Evidence of contributing towards income generation targets and developing persuasive funding propositions.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, compelling and evidence-based applications, proposals and reports.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to gather budgets, project information, evidence and impact data.
- Integrity, energy, a positive approach and a strong commitment to collaborative working.
- Access to suitable transport and willingness to travel across Northern Ireland where required.
Desirable
- Experience working within the third sector, voluntary organisations, environmental sustainability or community engagement programmes.
- A demonstrable interest in climate action, biodiversity recovery, environmental sustainability or community-based behaviour change.
