Maintenance Manager –Dungannon – Food Manufacturing
The Client:
We are working with a successful and established food manufacturing business in Dungannon to appoint an experienced Maintenance Manager to take strategic and operational responsibility for the engineering and maintenance function across a busy production site.
This is a key leadership position with responsibility for plant reliability, engineering performance, preventative maintenance, compliance, continuous improvement and the development of the engineering team.
The successful candidate will work closely with the senior management and production teams to drive engineering standards, reduce downtime and improve the overall reliability and efficiency of the site.
The Role:
As Maintenance Manager, you will lead the site engineering and maintenance function, providing clear direction to the maintenance team while taking ownership of the site’s engineering performance.
You will be responsible for developing and implementing a proactive maintenance strategy, ensuring maximum equipment availability, effective preventative maintenance and rapid resolution of engineering issues.
Working closely with Production, Technical, Health & Safety and senior management, you will identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency and operating performance across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for the site’s maintenance and engineering function.
- Lead, manage, coach and develop the maintenance team, establishing high standards of performance and accountability.
- Develop and implement a proactive preventative and predictive maintenance strategy.
- Take ownership of plant reliability, equipment availability and engineering performance.
- Analyse breakdowns, downtime and recurring engineering issues, ensuring effective root-cause analysis and corrective action.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, productivity and operating costs.
- Work closely with Production to develop maintenance priorities and minimise production disruption.
- Establish and monitor key engineering KPIs, including downtime, breakdown frequency, planned versus reactive maintenance and equipment availability.
- Ensure the CMMS/maintenance management system is effectively utilised and maintenance data is accurate and actionable.
- Manage external contractors, engineering suppliers and specialist service providers.
- Take responsibility for engineering budgets, maintenance spend, spares and stock control.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve maintenance efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Support the specification, installation and commissioning of new equipment and capital investment projects.
- Provide engineering input into site improvement and expansion projects.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with relevant health & safety, food safety, environmental and legislative requirements.
- Maintain high engineering standards across machinery, utilities, site services and production infrastructure.
- Work collaboratively with senior management and other functional leaders to support wider site objectives.
- Provide regular reports and recommendations to senior management on engineering performance, risks and improvement opportunities.
About You:
We are looking for an experienced engineering professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with proven leadership and commercial awareness.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, Engineering & Maintenance Manager or similar senior engineering leadership position.
- Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG or another high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Strong electrical and mechanical engineering knowledge.
- Proven experience leading and developing an engineering or maintenance team.
- A strong track record of improving plant reliability and reducing unplanned downtime.
- Extensive knowledge of preventative and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Strong fault-finding and root-cause analysis capability.
- Experience managing engineering budgets, contractors, suppliers and capital projects.
- Experience using CMMS/maintenance management systems and engineering KPIs.
- A strong understanding of engineering compliance, health & safety and food manufacturing standards.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence at senior management level.
- Strong commercial and analytical awareness, with the ability to identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- A proactive, structured and solutions-focused approach.
- The ability to balance strategic engineering leadership with a practical, hands-on approach.
- An engineering or technical qualification would be advantageous, although strong relevant industry experience and a proven track record in engineering leadership will also be considered.
