Chief Executive Officer
Staffline Ireland are recruiting for a Chief Executive Officer for a company in the leisure and tourism industry. The Chief Executive Officer will have responsibility for the provision of strategic, inspirational and transformational leadership to the organisation and act as the principal ambassador, advocate and public voice.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clear, visible and inspirational leadership, setting the tone, ambition and values of the organisation.
- Set the strategic agenda and lead development and delivery of strategies, business plans, targets and KPIs.
- Anticipate, influence and respond to changes affecting tourism and destination competitiveness.
- Ensure long term organisational effectiveness by embedding a culture of performance and continuous improvement.
- Act as principal adviser to the Chair and Board and support effective strategic decision-making.
- Provide effective oversight of major contracts, partnerships, procurement, funding agreements and strategic projects.
- Hold ultimate executive accountability for the financial sustainability and resilience.
- Safeguard and grow core public-sector funding and maintain trusted funder relationships.
- Drive commercial, partnership and project income and develop an ambitious commercial strategy.
- Ensure effective budgeting, financial management, value for money and strong return on investment.
- Use market intelligence, visitor insight and performance data to shape investment and decision-making.
- Develop high-value and emerging markets, including business events and international growth opportunities.
- Act as a leading ambassador and spokesperson for Belfast tourism locally, nationally and internationally.
- Build influential relationships with public bodies, government, industry, funders, business leaders, communities and media.
- Advocate for the visitor economy and influence policy, support and investment.
- Ensure commercially successful, high-quality visitor services and continued development of next-generation approaches.
- Lead, motivate and develop the senior management team and ensure effective performance management creating a high-performing, collaborative, innovative and inclusive culture.
- Any other duties role may involve.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional qualification; OR demonstrable equivalent senior leadership experience at an appropriate executive level.
- Significant senior leadership experience at Chief Executive, Director or equivalent level in a complex organisation, business or major function.
- Proven strategic leadership, transformation and delivery of measurable organisational results.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including significant budgetary responsibility and organisational sustainability/resilience.
- Experience of Board/governance relationships, risk, accountability and performance management.
- Significant stakeholder and partnership leadership in a complex external environment.
- Proven leadership of senior and multidisciplinary teams and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Understanding of the contribution of tourism, events and the visitor economy to economic growth, place-making and reputation.
- Strong strategic judgement, political awareness, resilience and personal credibility.
- Exceptional communication, influencing and ambassadorial capability.
- Forward-looking approach to digital transformation, data, technology and AI.
- Ability to work flexibly and undertake the travel required by the role.
Desirable Criteria:
- Postgraduate and/or relevant professional qualification or membership.
- Previous organisation-wide Chief Executive, Managing Director or Executive Director responsibility.
- City, regional or place-based growth strategy and/or international destination experience.
- Significant digital transformation or organisational modernisation.
- New commercial income streams, partnerships, sponsorship or innovative funding models.
- Public-funding/public-sector governance experience.
- Senior-level experience in tourism, destination development/management, hospitality, visitor economy, economic development, regeneration, culture, major events or inward investment.
- Knowledge of Belfast and Northern Ireland as a tourism and business destination and familiarity with the NI tourism policy/funding landscape.
- Experience of sustainable and responsible tourism and its economic, social and environmental impacts.
- Significant media, public speaking or regional/national/international representation experience.
