Senior Inventory Manager – MOD | BristolLocation: BristolContract: 6 months initially, with funding in place through to 2029Working Pattern: Part-time, 3 days per week onsiteContract Type: Inside IR35Rate: Competitive – discussed at application stage due to confidentiality

Are you a former military logistics, supply chain, inventory or equipment management professional looking to bring your operational experience into a major MOD programme?

We are looking for an experienced Senior Inventory Manager to support a significant Defence programme in Bristol. This is an opportunity for someone with genuine experience managing complex inventories, spares, equipment replacement and through-life support to apply that knowledge in a high-profile MOD environment.

This is not simply a stock-control role. You will be working at a senior level, helping shape how inventory is managed across a major programme and ensuring the right equipment and spares are available to support operational requirements.

Why this role could suit you

Your military background could be particularly relevant if you have experience as a:

  • Quartermaster
  • Logistics / Supply Officer
  • Equipment Support or Asset Manager
  • Inventory Manager
  • Supply Chain Manager
  • Materiel / Logistics professional
  • Equipment or Stores Manager
  • Senior NCO or Officer with significant responsibility for equipment, spares or inventory

We are particularly interested in people who understand the practical realities of managing equipment through its lifecycle — from determining what needs to be held, through to replacement, obsolescence and eventual disposal.

You don’t necessarily need to have held the title Inventory Manager in civilian life. What matters is the depth and relevance of your experience.

The role

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining inventory and spares strategies to support operational requirements, working with a range of Defence and industry stakeholders.

Your experience will be used to:

  • Develop and maintain effective spares models
  • Determine appropriate inventory levels through ranging and scaling
  • Assess future equipment and spares requirements
  • Consider asset replacement and obsolescence
  • Support through-life management of equipment
  • Review supplier and inventory-related information
  • Identify inventory and supply-chain risks
  • Support assurance, audit and contractual reviews
  • Develop meaningful inventory performance measures
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure inventory requirements are clearly understood
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce cost
  • Support the development of appropriate processes, guidance and training

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who can take a complex requirement, understand it quickly and work out what good looks like.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Significant experience in inventory, logistics, spares or equipment management
  • A strong understanding of asset replacement and through-life management
  • Experience developing or working with spares models
  • The ability to analyse requirements and translate them into practical inventory solutions
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • The confidence to work independently and make informed recommendations
  • The ability to quickly understand complex programmes and equipment environments
  • A proactive, enthusiastic approach and the ability to manage your own workload
  • Military experience welcomed

If you’ve been a Quartermaster or held an equivalent senior military logistics/equipment appointment, we’d be particularly interested in speaking with you.

Equally, we’re keen to hear from experienced civilian inventory, asset, supply chain and equipment professionals with a strong Defence background.

The opportunity

You’ll be joining an established MOD programme where your experience will have a direct impact on how equipment and inventory are managed across the programme lifecycle.

The initial contract runs for 6 months, with funding currently in place through to 2029, providing an opportunity for longer‑term continuity.

The role is based in Abbey Wood, Bristol, with 3 days per week onsite. This is a part‑time opportunity, with the working pattern to be agreed to ensure the required allocation of hours is delivered.

Your own laptop will be required for the assignment.
